Car-Pass, technical inspection and independent inspection are sometimes treated as alternatives. They answer different questions.
Car-Pass
Official Car-Pass information explains that the seller of a used car or van must give the buyer a Car-Pass. It provides information about the vehicle’s past and helps reveal an inconsistent mileage history.
It is not a complete check of mechanics, bodywork and equipment on the purchase date.
Technical inspection
The technical inspection checks the vehicle under the applicable regulatory procedures. Its outcome matters, but it is not personalised purchase advice or an estimate of every upcoming cost.
Independent inspection
A Carvise inspection focuses on the specific vehicle and conditions available. It combines visual and functional checks, photographs, a road test where possible and recommendations.
| Tool | Main question |
|---|---|
| Car-Pass | Is the recorded mileage history coherent? |
| Technical inspection | Does the vehicle meet the checked framework at that time? |
| Independent inspection | What should I understand before this transaction? |
The three tools can complement each other. None guarantees that a future breakdown will never occur.
